"God's Breath" by Nicky Williams

Genesis 2:4-7

Then the Lord God formed a man[c] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Good morning, guys! Yes, you must be very curious about who I am, why I am here, and what I am going to do. To satisfy your curiosity, let me tell you something about myself briefly. My name is KwangYu Lee, born and grew in S. Korea like most of your parents. I came to the US in 2007 for studying. Miserably, I am still studying something since then. At church, people call me pastor or moksanim. At home, my wife call me yeobo. Our two sons, ages 10 and 6, call me appa. I am here to meet you. I am here to teach you one of my favorite Bible stories.

2

The topic of the Bible story I prepared for you is: Do You Know Where God Is? Let me begin with the question to you. Guys, do you know where God is?

3

When I was a kid, my Sunday school teacher taught me that God is up there, not on the ceiling, but in the sky. She told me that in the sky there is a castle made of cloud. The castle is protected by angels and Jesus, God’s son, is also there. When I grew up, however, I came to realize that in the sky, there is no place like the cloud-castle. When you fly into the sky, I am certain that you cannot find anything like God up there. Let’s assume that you are determined to find God in the sky, so you consistently fly into the sky up and up. Then, eventually you can fly into the universe. In the universe, you can drop by the Sun, the moon, the Saturn, and other stars. However, I should say this. You cannot find any place in the universe where God lives. Additionally, some people say that God lives in our heart, in our heart. Some people say that God lives in trees, rivers, seas, and so on.

Let me ask you once again. Do you know where God is? Do you want to know where God is? If you want, I can share where I find God is. The answer is hidden in the Bible. So, now I would like to invite you to reading one, two, three, four, four Bible verses. They are Genesis 2:4-7. For your convenience, Pastor Cha helped me with that screen. Let us read those verses together. I will begin the first verse and you guys follow me by reading the second, and back and forth. One thing! When you read them, try to find the hidden answer about the place where God is.

5

So, let me ask you once again: Now do you know where God is? My final hint is: the answer is hidden in the verse 7. Yes, God is in our breath because when God’s breath was put into our nostrils, our life began. Because of God’s breathe in our body, we can continue to breathe in and out. So, here is my point. When you feel sorry about yourself, when you get into trouble, when you are helpless, remember where God is. To remember where God is, you can simply breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Shall we try this? Please close your eyes. When I say breathe in, slowly and deeply breathe in as much as you can, not by mouth, but by nose. When I say hold, then hold breath for a few seconds. When I say breathe out, slowly and deeply breathe out by nose. I will count one, two , three, four, and five. Until five, you keep breathe out. Are you ready? Breathe in. Hold. And Breathe out. Let’s try it once again. Let us pray.

Prayer

Dear God, today finally we came to learn where you live. You are not in the sky. You are not in the universe. You are not in the heart. You are not in nature. You are within us. You are in our breath. As long as we breathe, you are always with us. God, from today, when we get angry, when we get sad, when we get worried, we will remember where you are. We will remember how you stay with us. We pray in your name. Amen.
